Retreat pricing discounts
This past Friday I had 2 great conversations with clients regarding retreat pricing.
Since these conversations were essentially back-to-back, I quickly discovered that yes, I do have a strong philosophy regarding retreat pricing discounts.
I've recapped my opinions for your reading pleasure below.
1.
I believe discounts should never cause your pricing to dip below your minimum costs.
Minimum costs include covering your personal expenses (like the missed income from the classes you won't be teaching back at home).
At the bare minimum, you should always break even.
2.
Discounts should come from a place of abundance rather than scarcity.
Abundance: I'm going to offer scholarships to help members of my community attend!
-vs-
Scarcity: Oh shit! I've gotta discount to get people to attend!
Discounts (including scholarships) should only be offered after you've reached your minimum/break even amount.
3.
Early Bird discounts are a great way to get participants' butt in gear & register for your retreat. Have you noticed though, people still wait to the last flippin' moment before the early bird deadline?
How about instead of an early bird date - have an early bird amount?
$100 discount to the first 5 people registered!
4.
Bring a Friend discount is a great way to get friends registered - especially if you have friends share a bed.
Just like any other discount offer, make sure the discount will not prevent you from breaking even.
